Understanding What Makes Us Tick | Mental Health Month 2016

Hi everyone!

This week I am a guest blogger on Growing Faith, which is a website dedicated to equipping and energising parents and carers. You can check out my post about "understanding what makes us tick" here.

Not-so-coincidentally, it also happens to be Mental Health Month here in NSW, which this year has the theme "Learn and Grow". From their website:

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), mental health is the state of well-being in which every individual with their own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to their community (WHO, 2014).

So for October 2016’s Mental Health Month, WayAhead is encouraging people and communities to learn more about mental health and use that knowledge to grow personally and take control of their mental wellbeing.

Nearly half of all Australians (45%) will experience some form of mental illness during their lifetime, and those that don’t will most likely know someone that does. But there’s still a lot of stigma and confusion around the topic and that’s where learning and growing comes in. It’s important to make sure that as many people as possible know what mental illness looks like and what can be done to treat it – even if it’s not an issue for you right now, it might be one day, either for you or someone you know.

The theme also encourages everyone to learn new and exciting things, as the very act of learning can have many positive outcomes on our mental health and wellbeing – no matter what you choose to learn about.

I couldn't say it any better myself! Feel free to drop me a line or comment on Facebook about some things you'd like to learn more about mental wealth and wellbeing and I'll fit them into my blog topic schedule for 2017.
